From the Ashes

Kay Mabasa

in all the years of humanity

civilization has been born and died

and born again

today we stand in the ashes of yesterday

in the memory of panic, grief, and pain

in the shadow of what many believed to be the end

but here we are

pushing on

building from the ashes

with the knowing

that it can all be brought

down again

for that is true resilience

that is rebellion

that is the way of life
